If pancake day is something that your household looks forward to celebrating and you have a dog, then read on. After all, your pup would love to be included in the festivities too – especially when there’s food involved. There’s no reason for your dog to miss out on the fun with these modified pancakes. We’ve simply eliminated milk and white flour from the recipe and substituted with water and buckwheat flour, to be more appropriate for a dog’s diet. The recipe is as follows:
- 200 g buckwheat flour
- 500 ml water
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp oil
- Whisk the eggs and water in a bowl.
- Measure out the flour into another bowl and make a well in the centre.
- Add the beaten egg mixture. Whisk together by hand until the mixture is well blended and smooth.
- Let the batter rest in the fridge for 15 minutes.
- Heat the oil in a non-stick frying pan. Add enough batter to coat the bottom. Cook for about 30 seconds, then flip the pancake over and cook for a further 30 seconds to a minute until golden.
With your stack of pancakes made, the fun part is choosing the toppings. Dogs love peanut butter (as long as it is xylitol free) and it makes a great pancake topping. They also like a small amount of fruit such as chopped apple or banana, but make sure you steer clear of raisins or grapes. Or, why not turn it into a savoury treat with some bacon sprinkled on top?
After a dog’s breakfast of champions, your four-legged friend will be ready for a Pancake Day filled with adventure and fun.
