5 gardening tips to make your life easier

Summer is the time of year to step back and admire the fruits of your labour in the garden. As you stare at the flourishing plants you can finally thank yourself for all the hard work. However, here at Travall we don’t think gardening should be such a chore, so we’ve got 5 gardening tips to make your life easier and more enjoyable.

Tip #1 – Choose plants wisely

The first thing you need to consider is the selection of plants you wish to grow. Avoid choosing plants that require frequent watering and are particularly sensitive. This is only going to make your life more difficult. Instead, opt for more forgiving perennials such as Peonies or Lillies. These plants are still beautiful when they flower, but demand less work and are extremely hard-wearing.

Tip #2 – Add a layer of mulch to your soil

This is one of our all time favourite gardening tips, as laying mulch has multiple benefits, such as preventing weeds, keeping the soil cool and helping to retain its moisture. As a result, you’ll spend less time weeding and watering your garden.

Tip #3 – Install Travall vehicle-specific accessories

No doubt you’ll be making a few trips to your local garden centre throughout the season, which can often be very messy. Installing a Travall Liner in the boot of the car will make life much easier when you inevitably spill some soil. Additionally, a Travall Guard and Travall Divider will make transporting large shrubs or trees in the back of your car much more manageable. Together they will increase your vehicle’s load capacity and allow you to more effectively organise the boot space. Furthermore, as a bonus tip avoid transporting plants when they are dry, as the roots are more likely to crack.

Tip #4 – Weed regularly

Don’t let weeds takeover your garden by leaving them to grow freely. To save time later on, get in the habit of pulling weeds out as soon as you see them. If they are allowed to mature, they become more difficult to remove and are more likely to reproduce.

Tip #5 – Make your own compost

Making your own compost is a really easy way to cut your gardening costs and be more environmentally friendly. Simply saving your kitchen scraps, such as potato peelings and coffee grounds means less waste is sent to landfill and you no longer have to buy soil or plant food. There are some great guides available online to teach you the best ways of composting at home.

There’s our rundown of the top 5 gardening tips. We hope you found them useful and can put them to good use in taking the work out of gardening this season.
