In 2005, Animal Planet brilliantly\ncame up with the perfect combination of the two: The Puppy Bowl. The only show that has my dog transfixed by the TV,\ngiving off an occasional, encouraging bark here and there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unless\nyou\u2019ve followed it from the beginning, you might not know about the cute,\nfluffy, sister show of the SuperBowl. Welp, that\u2019s what we are here for. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"700\" height=\"499\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.travall.com\/en-us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/ThinkstockPhotos-873340318.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2149\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.travall.com\/en-us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/ThinkstockPhotos-873340318.jpg 700w, https:\/\/blog.travall.com\/en-us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/ThinkstockPhotos-873340318-300x214.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is the Puppy Bowl?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What began\nas a marketing attempt has turned into one of the biggest parodies to date. To counteract the attention that the NFL SuperBowl\ndraws, Animal Planet, (along with the rest of TV networks), was trying to think of ways to compete with\nviewings on game day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cIt was always a joke: How do you counter the\nSuper Bowl? Let\u2019s just put a box of puppies up there and call it a day. It\u2019s\nnot worth trying to go against the Super Bowl.\u201d &nbsp;Margo Kent, the executive producer for Puppy\nBowl I, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/culture\/culture-news\/americas-other-cuter-super-bowl-the-story-of-the-puppy-bowl-48603\/\">Rolling\nStone<\/a>. Since\nthen, The Puppy Bowl has become the start of the tailgate for the Super Bowl in\nits own right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.travall.com\/en-us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/ThinkstockPhotos-187469466.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2152\" width=\"580\" height=\"454\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.travall.com\/en-us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/ThinkstockPhotos-187469466.jpg 667w, https:\/\/blog.travall.com\/en-us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/ThinkstockPhotos-187469466-300x235.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Originally,\nthe Puppy Bowl started with puppies running around on a mock football field.\nSince then it has grown into a complete parody of the Super Bowl, with\nannouncers, a kitten half time show and even a parrot national anthem! This\nyear we have 93 puppies being featured in\nthe bowl &#8211; you can find the whole line-up <a href=\"https:\/\/wtop.com\/animals-pets\/2019\/01\/puppy-bowl-xv-see-the-starters-for-team-ruff-and-team-fluff-photos\/slide\/18\/\">here<\/a>. The two teams, Team Fluff, and Team Ruff, made up of a handful of shelter\ndogs are put into the arena before toys are\nthrown in, and the fun begins!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Rules<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Any\ntoy dragged across a goal line is a touchdown<\/li><li>A\nball kicked through the goal posts is a field goal<\/li><li>Players\nmust be vaccinated and well behaved<\/li><li>Actual\nfootball rules including \u2018paws-interference\u2019 and \u2018intentional ruffness\u2019<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"699\" height=\"499\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.travall.com\/en-us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/ThinkstockPhotos-807301832.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.travall.com\/en-us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/ThinkstockPhotos-807301832.jpg 699w, https:\/\/blog.travall.com\/en-us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/ThinkstockPhotos-807301832-300x214.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 699px) 100vw, 699px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On top of the puppies being adorable little fluff balls, Animal Planet topped it off by making it all for a good cause. Each pup that plays in the Puppy Bowl is from a shelter needing a home, with many of them being adopted after. This has drawn attention from sponsors, which has helped with the popularity of the program and raising awareness for dogs in shelters nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It takes\nover 60 staff members and two days of filming to make this event happen. This\nyear will begin around 2, with Puppy Bowl XV kickoff at 3 pm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, who\nwill you be cheering for this year? Team Ruff or Team Fluff? Tune in to see not\nonly the puppy action but Shirley the\nsloth helping referee Dan, a purrrfect\nhalf time show, porcupine cheerleaders cheering on Team Ruff, baby kangoo cheerleaders and a capybara cheering on\nTeam Fluff!
