Dogs need exercise to stay healthy and happy. Some breeds require a lot more than others, but all need some form of exercise daily. So what do you do when the temperatures outside are too cold, or the weather is too inclement for you or your dog to want to venture outside? There are some activities that you can do indoors that will keep your dog\u2019s mind active and his body active too. We detail some ideas below, so you\u2019ve got some back up activities for those low temperature days when outdoor exercise isn\u2019t the best option.<\/span><\/p>\n

Brush up on some dog training<\/span><\/h2>\n

When was the last time you added another trick to your dog\u2019s repertoire? Dogs thrive when mentally stimulated and learning a new trick is a great way to do that and can easily be done indoors. Look online for YouTube videos that can show you step by step how some tricks can be taught.<\/span><\/p>\n

Set up an agility course<\/span><\/h2>\n

You don\u2019t have to have a massive indoor space to achieve this. Simply setting up a few obstacles in your living area or hallway can get your dog running and jumping. There\u2019s also no need to purchase expensive equipment. Using household items that you already have at home is all that\u2019s required.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sniff out some nosework options<\/span><\/h2>\n

Another option for mental stimulation comes in the form of nosework.\u00a0 A dog\u2019s nose is highly sensitive and this form of exercise is both very tiring for dogs and is a great way to improve impulse control.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Try some puzzle games<\/span><\/h2>\n

This one will require some expenditure, but puzzle games for dogs are relatively inexpensive. We particularly like the test tube Turnaround game from Trixie, which offers different levels of difficulty so can still be utilized as your dog\u2019s skills progress.<\/span><\/p>\n

Play hide and seek<\/span><\/h2>\n

Dogs love a game of hide and seek. It\u2019s a really easy one to do indoors.<\/span><\/p>\n
