If you\u2019re really starting to get into the holiday spirit, you may enjoy this. It\u2019s a poem by Carleen Coulter that takes \u201c’Twas the Night Before Christmas\u201d by Clement Clarke Moore and gives it a pet friendly twist.  <\/p>\n

Twas the night before petmas when all through the pack<\/span><\/p>\n

Not an animal was stirring, not even for snacks<\/span><\/p>\n

The stockings were chewed by the chimney with care<\/span><\/p>\n

In hopes that Santapaws soon would be there<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The doggies were nestled all snug in their beds<\/span><\/p>\n

While visions of rawhides danced in their heads<\/span><\/p>\n

And the cat in the cat tree and I in a lap<\/span><\/p>\n

Had just settled down for long winter’s nap<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter<\/span><\/p>\n

I sprang, barked, and jumped to see what was the matter<\/span><\/p>\n

Away to the window the cat flew with a flash<\/span><\/p>\n

Hissed at the shutters and clawed up the sash<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The moonlight was bright on the new fallen snow<\/span><\/p>\n

Lighting up cat eyes that watched from below<\/span><\/p>\n

Then what to the wondering cat eyes should appear<\/span><\/p>\n

But a miniature sleigh and eight dogs dressed like reindeer<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

With a funny man driver, who was breaking speed laws<\/span><\/p>\n

I knew in a moment it must be Santapaws<\/span><\/p>\n

More rapid than beagles, his coursers they came<\/span><\/p>\n

And he whistled and barked, and he called them by name<\/span><\/p>\n

Now Dasher, now Dancer, now Prancer and Vixen<\/span><\/p>\n

On Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and Blitzen!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

To the top of the cat tree that sits in the hall<\/span><\/p>\n

Now dash away, dash away, snacks for you all!<\/span><\/p>\n

As dry leaves that before wild squirrel chasers fly<\/span><\/p>\n

When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So up to the dog house the coursers they flew<\/span><\/p>\n

With the sleigh full of cat toys and boney chews too<\/span><\/p>\n

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof<\/span><\/p>\n

The prancing and pawing, and it made me go “woof”<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As I threw back my head and barked like a hound<\/span><\/p>\n

Down the chimney Santapaws came with a bound<\/span><\/p>\n

He was dressed all in fur from his head to his snoot<\/span><\/p>\n

And his clothes were all tarnished with dog spit and soot<\/span><\/p>\n

A bundle of rawhides were flung on his back<\/span><\/p>\n

And he looked like a dog walker opening his pack<\/span><\/p>\n

His eyes, how they twinkled, his dimples how merry<\/span><\/p>\n

his cheeks were like dog biscuits, his nose like a berry<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow<\/span><\/p>\n

And the cat played with his beard as white as the snow<\/span><\/p>\n

The stump of a biscuit he held tight in his teeth<\/span><\/p>\n

And the crumbs from it encircled his head like a wreath<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He had a broad face and a little round belly<\/span><\/p>\n

That shook when he laughed like a dog dish of jelly<\/span><\/p>\n

He was chubby and plump a right jolly old elf<\/span><\/p>\n

And I barked when I saw him, in spite of myself<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A wink of his eye and a pet on my head<\/span><\/p>\n

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread<\/span><\/p>\n

He spoke not a word, but straightened his fur<\/span><\/p>\n

Filled up the pet stockings, then turned with a purr<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And laying a paw pad aside of his nose<\/span><\/p>\n

And giving a nod up the chimney he rose<\/span><\/p>\n

He sprang to his sleigh, to his dogs gave a whistle<\/span><\/p>\n

And away they all flew like the fur of a thistle<\/span><\/p>\n

But I heard him exclaim as the cat played with the lights\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Merry Petmas to all<\/span><\/p>\n

And be good companions tonight!<\/span><\/p>\n
