While current government guidelines permit just 30 minutes of daily exercise, we’re guessing your dog walks have become less exciting. With this in mind, we’re here to help you plan more adventurous post-lockdown walks when it’s safe to do so. Read on for some great tips to make your walks more enjoyable and fulfilling for both you and the dog.

Dog Walking Tip #1: Switch it up

First and foremost the easiest way to spice up your dog walks is to try somewhere new. Repeating the same route will become boring soon enough, no matter where you go. There are plenty of great places to walk the dog in the UK. With numerous footpaths, countryside walking trails and public parks offering a diverse range of locations, you’re spoilt for choice. Exploring new spots isn’t just great fun for you, but offers your dog fantastic mental stimulation. If you intend on going off the beaten path during your adventures, it’s a good idea to fit a Travall CargoMat and Travall Mats Terrain Edition for some added protection in your vehicle. These accessories offer a precise fit and mean you can say goodbye to muddy foot and paw prints.

Dog Walking Tip #2: Make it a workout

Regular walks bring many health benefits for your dog, including improved muscle development and reduced obesity levels. This is also true for us humans. Better still, regular walks can improve memory and cognitive function. So why not make walking the dog part of your regular exercise routine, or perhaps go a little further and turn it into a full blown workout. There are many ways to go about this, but one of our favourites is the awesome sport of canicross, which combines cross country running with dog walking.

Dog Walking Tip #3: Make it playful

Bringing a toy along with you is another great way to get the most out of your dog walks. Not only is it great fun for your pooch, but a classic game of fetch with their favourite ball or frisbee keeps them extra active. This is ideal when you’re short on time, but still want to give them a thorough runaround.

Dog Walking Tip #4: Invite a friend

If there’s one thing we’ve all missed throughout the Coronavirus pandemic, it’s meeting with our friends and family. For this reason, we’re certainly going to be bringing a friend or two along with us on our post-lockdown adventures! This is an awesome way to keep your dog walks interesting and it’s even better if they bring their own dogs along.

Dog Walking Tip #5: Travall Accessories

For our final dog walking tip we’d recommend taking the hassle out of transporting your pets with Travall vehicle-specific accessories. If you plan on trying some new dog walking spots that require you to travel by car, our range of premium vehicle-specific accessories are for you. The Travall Guard is a stylish solution to the issue of your dog escaping into the interior of your vehicle. Better still, it comes without the price tag of dealership options and the poor fit of universal guards. Moreover, the latest addition to the Travall range, the Travall TailGate, is the perfect accessory if you’re worried about your dog bolting out of the car as soon as you open the boot. Manufactured from the same high quality steel as the Guard, it’s a great deterrent for any over-excited dogs and keeps you in control.

So that concludes our suggestions for planning for future dog walks. We hope you found them useful and are feeling inspired for your post-lockdown activities.

Other posts that might interest you:

5 dog training essentials for you and your pup

The all-new Travall TailGate: adventure starts when you’re ready

7 tips to keep your dog active during the COVID-19 pandemic

Welcome to part 1 of our new series, in which we hope to offer some inspiration and fresh ideas for those outdoor activities you’re so desperate to get back to following the current lockdown.
