How to get a pet passport to travel in the EU<\/span><\/h2>\n

Firstly you will need to have an appointment at a vet\u2019s surgery that issues pet passports. \u00a0Not all vets surgeries do, but if yours doesn\u2019t they will be able to tell you how to get a pet passport in your area. You will need to take records of your dog\u2019s immunisations and provide details of his medical history. They will make sure your dog has the relevant vaccinations that are needed for the country to which you intend to travel. \u00a0Travelling within the European Union (EU) with your dog is the easier way to go.\u00a0If you want to go to non-EU or unlisted countries there is much more involved, so referring to the <\/span>government website is advisable<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are 6 other things that are essential to ensure that your dog is able to travel within the EU:<\/span><\/p>\n

Firstly, he must have a microchip. \u00a0This is a legal requirement in the UK anyway, so you\u2019ve probably already got that covered.<\/span><\/p>\n

Secondly, he must receive a rabies vaccination. \u00a0Your dog will not be able to re-enter the UK until 21 days after this vaccination has been given to your dog. \u00a0This makes planning ahead for travel essential<\/em><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thirdly, your dog must receive treatment for tapeworm. This must happen BEFORE<\/strong> you return to the UK and will need to be done between 24 hours and 120 hours (5 days) prior to your return by a licensed vet. \u00a0<\/span>Details will need to be included in your dog\u2019s pet passport.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Fourthly, your dog needs to be more than 15 weeks old before he can travel to the EU.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fifthly, check whether your current pet insurance policy is valid for overseas travel. <\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, check on the pet transport regulations for the country that you intend to visit. \u00a0An example is if you plan to travel to Spain.
