In the UK we see a wide variety of cars on our roads. One of the most commonly seen these days is Volvo. This manufacturer offers a range of body styles from hatchbacks through to SUVs, but all offer the brand’s same core message – safety for drivers and passengers.  Volvo has long had a reputation in the UK for safety and the company has branded itself on this strength throughout the world. With the fashionable interest in all things “Scandi” we decided to take a closer look at this Swedish brand.

The latin word Volvo means “I spin” or “I roll”.

It was the first car manufacturer to introduce side-curtain airbags.

The company was founded in 1924 by two Swedes, Gustav Larsson and Assar Gabrielsson.

Their cars are all about comfort too and they make their seats as comfortable as possible, designed with the help of orthopaedic surgeons.

The seats of the theatre in Kilcullen, Ireland are not your typical theatre seats. They are actually Volvo S80 seats.

The V40 received the highest ever score from Euro NCAP (a European car safety assessment group), making it possibly the safest car on Europe’s roads.

Volvos are known for their longevity and the company awards owners for high mileage achieved in one of their cars.

Volvo was the first foreign manufacturer to open an automotive plant in the US in the 1960s.
