Fun facts about Nissan: part 8, dog guards for Nissan and more

When you think of Japanese car manufacturers one of the first to spring to mind for many people would be Nissan.  It’s a brand that has seen an increased presence on the roads of Britain in recent years, with the Nissan QashQai and Nissan Juke being particularly popular among families. As our dog guards for Nissan models are extremely popular, we wanted to find even more about this brand and were interested by the following facts.  

  • The Nissan headquarters are located in Nishi-ku, Yokohoma, in Japan.
  • Nissan dates back to 1933.
  • Nissan was originally known as Datson.  Because “son” sounded too similar to the word for disadvantage in Japanese, this name was changed to Datsun. The Datsun name was officially retired in 1986 and the name Nissan was used thereafter.
  • Nissan sells its luxury models under the Infiniti brand.
  • It was Nissan that started the idea of using attractive female models to sell cars in the 1960’s. The Miss Fairlady programme employed beautiful (and very intelligent) showroom attendants, giving them extensive product training.  Many of these “Fairladies” have gone on to enjoy managerial positions as their careers have progressed. Others have become television announcers after their time as a Miss Fairlady, thanks to the very high level of training in presentation skills.
  • The Nissan LEAF was the first all-electric vehicle launched to the mass market.  This launch in 2010 was global.
  • Nissan is part of a successful automotive partnership with the French car manufacturer Renault. This means that they share automotive technology, design and manufacturing resources to help provide innovative, yet cost-effective new vehicle models.

  • The Nissan Qashqai crossover got its name from a nomadic group of people that settled in Southern Persia during the 15th century in what is now Iran. In the United States the Nissan Qashqai goes by a different name, the Nissan Rogue Sport.
