Family and dog-friendly days out in the UK: 7 destinations to enjoy

If you’re a dog owner, there are few things that are more frustrating than going on a day trip with the family to find that the furry member of your family isn’t welcome at that location.  With this in mind, we decided to put together some ideas for some family and dog-friendly days out in the UK, so you can all enjoy the journey and the day out.

Crich Tramway Village, Crich, Derbyshire

In a village just south of Matlock, this gem of a museum is just the place to take a trip back in time.  The museum is chock full of trams, that will give kids an insight into days gone by and may rekindle memories for the older visitor. Malton, North Yorkshire

This town was awarded the title of the UK’s most dog-friendly town in 2018. Dogs are welcome in many of the establishments in the town.  It also has the reputation of being Yorkshire’s food capital, so may be a great place to go for some delicious Yorkshire puddings.

Barafundle Bay, Pembrokeshire, Wales

This fabulous West Wales beach welcomes dogs year round.  A fantastic place to dig in the sands for kids and dogs alike.

Cheddar Caves and Gorge, Cheddar, Somerset

From exploring the caves to learning more about the Museum of Prehistory, this destination offers a fun and educational trip for the entire family. A special wildlife week is scheduled for the 25th of May until 2nd of June. Dogs on a lead are welcome at all the attractions.

Ellisland Farm, near Dumfries, Scotland

This was the home built by famed Scottish poet Robert Burns in the late 1700s.  A visit here to find out where he got inspiration from his poetry can take from an hour to 3 hours. Dogs are very welcome throughout when on a lead.

Mount Stewart Gardens, Northern Ireland

The gardens of this magnificent National Trust property are the perfect place to take the family for a different walking experience. From the seven acre lake to the  mediterranean feel of the formal gardens, the whole family can enjoy this beautiful location.

Exbury Gardens and steam railway, New Forest, Hampshire

There are 22 miles of pathway at Exbury Gardens so you can walk your dog to your heart’s content. If you need a rest after all that walking,  why not take the steam train for a 20 minute ride. Your dog is welcome to ride too – he just needs to be on the lead. You could also enjoy some refreshments at Mr Eddy’s restaurant where canine ice cream is also on the menu.
