Easy ways to prepare your car for Autumn weather

Here at Travall, we’re keen advocates of regular vehicle maintenance and as the seasons change taking care of your car is essential. We’ve got some easy ways to prepare your car for Autumn, so you can be sure your vehicle is in the best possible shape so you can enjoy those Autumn adventures.

Leave the leaves behind.

Autumn leaves are beautiful, but they can cause problems with your vehicle. If you regularly park under or near trees, ensure that your car is cleared of leaves and other debris before setting out so that your vision isn’t impeded, your air filters don’t get clogged, and your paintwork isn’t affected.  As the weather turns wetter, be aware of an increase in mud and grit that can also affect your car’s paintwork.

Check your equipment.

Tyres.  Do a visual check to make sure your tyres are still in good shape and have sufficient tread depth. Follow up by checking tyre pressure. If the tread is low or the side walls look damaged in any way, replace the tyre.

Wipers.  Ensure your wipers are in good condition and are working properly.

Heater.  Check that your car’s heating/air-conditioning system is working properly so that you can easily de-mist your windscreen on the frosty mornings ahead.

Lights.  Make sure all your lights are working and that the bulbs aren’t dim.  You’ll be particularly glad to have a clearly lit road on dark days and at night and it is vitally important that you can be seen too.

Battery.  Check your battery.  If you find it is struggling, replace it.  It’s easier to do this now than to face a breakdown on a bitterly cold day.

Stock your boot.

Check that you have sufficient de-icer in the boot of your car as nights can quickly turn frosty. Why not also add a torch, a waterproof jacket and a blanket in case of emergencies? Adding a Travall CargoMat, ensures that your boot’s interior stays clean and dry when adding wet or muddy items, including dogs.

Add a layer of protection.

Keeping your car’s interior clean can be tricky when the weather turns wetter.  Consider installing vehicle-specific rubber mats, to keep your car’s carpet clean and dry with a no-slip, full-coverage fit.
