The winter can be a great time to take a short break and the UK has so many great options even during the winter months. We’ve taken a look at 4 UK destinations to visit with your dog and give you a taste of the type of activities you can enjoy together. So why not install your Travall Guard and head out on a car ride to take a weekend excursion (or longer holiday if you prefer) with your canine pal on board:
A weekend of hiking – The Peak District
What to do: Take a hike on the Monsal Trail for a good 8.5 miles of exercise for you and your pup. Or for a slightly more leisurely approach, stroll around the grounds of the stunning Chatsworth House.
A weekend touring museums – Cornwall
What to do: Visit Geevor Tin Mine, where dogs have access to every part of the site except the underground mine. Take a trip to Jamaica Inn for some pirate intrigue and dogs are welcomed in the Smuggler’s Museum on a lead. Or go to the Port of Charlestown (a UNESCO world heritage site) and visit the Charlestown Shipwreck Museum with your pooch alongside.
A weekend at the seaside – The Gower Peninsula
What to do: Many of the beaches allow dogs during the winter season. Top spots include Oxwich Bay beach, Crawley Beach and Llangennith Beach. Or why not treat your dog to some Billy & Margot’s dog ice cream from Beaches and Cream on Mumbles Pier.
A weekend at a luxury country retreat – Dumfries and Galloway
What to do: Stay at the fabulous Trigony House Hotel where your pet is treated as a VIP guest, with his own welcome pack, bed/basket and towels plus a complimentary sausage at breakfast. Outdoor showers allow him to freshen up after muddy walks on the rolling hills that surround the area. Treat your dog to some reiki therapy, or ask the hotel staff for a dog sitter so you can enjoy a spa treatment yourself.
Maybe you’ve got other favourite UK destinations to visit with your dog in winter. If so, we’d love to hear about them. Wherever you go, enjoy the journey!
